A year later, roughly $40,000 in treatment was denied by
Tricare. We received huge EOBs and bills. I logged hundreds of hours trying to
figure out the issue. We have been blessed with amazing friends who helped us
fight this battle and called in their contacts to help.
It was shortly after lunch yesterday when Bryan called my
cell. He never calls me at work. He said, “I heard from UT hospital today about
the bill.”
My response was “and?”
He said, “They accepted our proposed settlement of $4,000
and they will set up a payment plan.”
I literally jumped,
shouted, praised God and exclaimed how happy I was. The total bill we received between
the hospital and the doctor that treated him was $28,924.00. The total bill was
reduced to $6,000.
I absolutely can’t believe it. I am so thrilled and so
thankful. An enormous weight has been lifted off our shoulders. We can breathe
easier, we can relax again and we feel good knowing another battle is won.
Our work is not done though. I am willing to be the example
if it promotes change. I hope that somehow, some way this treatment can be
approved for and purchased for our wounded warriors in the near future. It
helped my husband and we wish he could have the boosters he needs for a
lifelong treatment plan. For now, however, that is not possible.
I am going to do what
I can to make more people aware of this treatment and how well it works. It
should be used. I haven’t figured out yet how to do that but I hope by sharing
this within my blog it might bring more awareness.

Awwwww yay!!! So glad everything turned out well :)
I am so happy to read about this victory for you and Bryan. I am a new follower and have delved into your blog and read back through some of your archives to know your experience a bit better. I really admire your and Bryan's obvious strength and love for one another.
I just found your blog. I am glad for this victory you shared about. I plan to read other posts ... just wanted to say hello.
I just read the article in the Huffington Post and was deeply touched. I am a Dutch Canadian and am appalled by the neglect you have gone through.
I am glad you are trusting God once more and please keep on going with Him.

after reading about you on AOL, I find it extremely difficult to comprehend how the system has failed you and others. I feel for you and hope that life will get a little easier with each day that passes. the US gov't should be ashamed of what families of wounded soldiers go through. Best of luck
I read your story today on AOL. I cannot believe your struggles and feel for you and your family. The US govt should be ashamed of how they treat families of wounded soldiers and should be looked at a lot more diligently. I wish you much luck in the future and hope that every day is easier.
Over the last week I have read your entire blog from the day the IED went off. It was completely captivating, inspiring, well written, open and honest. I have no experience with anything that you have been through or will go through, but know you are very brave. As is your husband. I particularly enjoyed the photos. You see his wonderful smile change through the roller coaster you endured. Thanks him for his service for me.
Happy for you and your husband, sad that you even have to wage this fight. Absolutley criminal treatment of a wounded veteran as far as I am concerned. I just don't know how we can expect men and women to serve and then ignore them when they need us. Both myh sons served as Infantry Platoon Leaders and both came home unscathed, thankfully. There is much work to be done for families like yours! Keep up the good fight!
That is great news! I am happy for you guys.
Thanking God on your hehalf. Great news.
