Our company left today and as soon as they did I had Bryan take me to the ER where I spent 4 hours for them to tell me I had strep throat and give me some antibiotics. I want to try and get my tonsils taken out before we get off Tricare Prime insurance. I can’t afford to be sick after he is discharged.

Getting out and about
November 23, 2007
I’m still not feeling well today and I have been a horrible hostess because I really can’t do anything. I did get out of the house for a bit to pick up some end tables that mom got us to match our bedroom furniture. When we got back Bryan’s mother had cooked us dinner for Bryan’s upcoming birthday. She got extremely emotional when blessing the food. This year people act like this is his first birthday since his injury but it isn’t. People keep commenting on how they are so glad he is alive and had another birthday. I think Bryan gets uncomfortable when people talk about it. He is turning 30 however and he is doing a whole lot better than he was last year at this time. I am so proud of him.

Thankful
November 22, 2007
Today is Thanksgiving Day. I am so thankful so many things this year. I am thankful that we have a house and family to spend Thanksgiving with this year. I am thankful that Bryan has recovered as much as he has. I am thankful we are out of DC and making our own life. My mother and sister and Bryan’s parents are here and we are cooking up a huge feast in our kitchen. There are times when Bryan just disappears and his parents don’t understand why he leaves. Bryan sometimes just has to take a time out he can’t handle all the people and the stimulation. I know to just leave him alone that sometimes he needs a break but I am not sure that others understand why.
Unfortunately however I am not feeling well. My back is hurting and my throat is sore. I guess I am coming down with something. I hope I am not getting sick because I am still on Walter Reed’s network so in order to go to the doctor I have to go to the hospital.

Missing Thanksgiving Guests
November 19, 2007
Tonight I got home from work and got a phone call from Bryan’s brother saying they are not coming to Thanksgiving because Lisa wants to spend it with her grandparents. I knew this was not going to be good news for Bryan. I asked him why he called me and not Bryan directly and he said that his mom told him to call me. I thought that was strange as they could have called Bryan in DC. I am sick of breaking the bad news all the time. I called Bryan and told him that they were not coming. He of course was upset and stated a few harsh words. He feels like his brother hasn’t really been there for him. He didn’t come to the hospital when Bryan was injured or his bachelor party. I explained to him why they weren’t coming and he was upset that his brother didn’t call him. My heart breaks for him. I know his “brothers” are back in Iraq and he misses them. I know they understand him and he knows they would do anything for him. Maybe one day Brice will make the time to come up here and get to know his brother again.

IBA
November 8, 2007
I was upstairs unpacking today and Bryan asked me to come downstairs. I came down and there was an Iraqi snake’s skin stuck to some tape on his tuff boxes that were shipped from Iraq. I was surprised it was still on there and it was disgusting.
About an hour later Bryan called me downstairs again. I asked him what it was and he said I have to see it. I came downstairs and went into the garage. There he stands holding his bullet proof vest that had been cut off of him and had blood stains on it. I was extremely surprised they sent it. I gave me chills and I didn’t know what to say or how to place my emotions. I asked Bryan how he felt about it and he said he didn’t know. Luckily there wasn’t a lot of blood considering his only upper extremity injuries were his wrist and his lip. I just hugged him and told him I was thankful he was still alive. I asked him if he was ok and he said yes so I left him to process his thoughts.

Our Things Are Coming Our Things are Coming
November 6, 2007
I awoke in a frenzy this morning excited that my things were coming. It feels like Christmas because I haven’t seen our things in so long. It was 10:30 and no one showed up and no phone calls from them as well. They showed up at about 11 and we informed them that they could drive a Semi down our newly poured driveway. They had to go and rent a u-haul. Luckily I have the next two days off work so I can unpack our things as best as I can. Bryan’s parents are coming in this weekend on top of everything so I need to try to get at least a place for them to sit and sleep. Everything got successfully unpacked. I am so happy to see everything I feel like for the first time in a long time I am truly happy. It’s the start of a new chapter.
The movers however decided to slide Bryan’s black tuff boxes down our stairs and it left black marks all on the carpet. Luckily Bryan slept through the carpet cleaning appointment and they are coming to clean them again after everything is unpacked. I hope it comes out.

Fantastic Photography
November 5, 2007
Today is the day before my household goods are being delivered. I am so excited that I can hardly stand it. It’s been fifteen months since I have seen my things and I can’t wait to organize this house with all of our wonderful things. I hope I get plenty of rest tonight because I know I will want to unpack as much as I can.
We also got Bryan’s picture taken in his dress blues and his Army Combat Uniform (ACU) by a photographer in Knoxville. When I approached this couple about getting his pictures taken with him I mentioned that Bryan was getting medically boarded and I wanted to get pictures of him in uniform. They offered to do it for free. I was shocked. He was so kind and generous and captured the true essence of who Bryan is. I can’t wait to share them with friends and family. Here is the website:

Job Testing
November 2, 2007
Today Bryan went to a local college here to do testing for two state jobs that he applied for. They are both helping Veterans find jobs; I think this job is perfect for him. It doesn’t pay all that great but it’s a state job so he can use his military time in conjunction with it to retire with more years. With his disability payments I think we can make it. What is also great as this job doesn’t require a degree and you had to be an E-5 for at least 5 years and he has that covered. If he got this job he could probably move to other jobs within the department as well. I hope that he does well and gets and interview.
