Apparently the reason our things cannot be released as they have the wrong funding code to pay for our things to be delivered. They are going to see who does the exception to policies at the headquarters of transportation and do another exception to policy. This could take several more days. My uproar about the Non medical attendant orders could be changing in Congress. This makes me so happy as this could help other families who are in our same situation.

Many phone calls
October 26th, 2007
This morning Bryan got a whole slew of calls regarding the non-medical attendant back pay and the release of our household goods. Apparently we should have word this evening about our things being released but I am not getting my hopes up. I have lost faith in the system and how it is supposed to work. We will see.

I need furniture!
October 25th, 2007
Today I decided that I had enough. Coming home from work to a beautiful house with no furniture was something I could no longer tolerate. I can’t sit back and hope that someday it would come so I decided to be proactive. I e-mailed the Under Secretary of the Army and told him of our issues with the Non-Medical Attendant issues being denied again and our household goods being stuck in storage. I didn’t want to trump the chain of command but as a social worker I felt the policy on Non-Medical Attendant orders needed to change. It was so hard for us to live in such an expensive city as D.C. and we have some rank. I can’t imagine a private and his wife surviving there without only his paycheck. I am hoping that this policy can change. Also it should not be this hard for our things to come out of storage when my husband being blown up was the cause of our things being in storage for 15 months. We will see what happens tomorrow.

Switching positions
October 10th, 2007
Today I was offered another job within the program. I will be going into the hospitals to give first time parents information about our program. I wanted to work with the families more but this position needs to be filled so I will do what they need me to. I have spent time with the soldiers in the hospital explaining Vocational Rehabilitation to them so it is something I am comfortable doing. Bryan is at Walter Reed again so I discussed with him the position change and he thinks I will do well with the moms in the hospital. He also likes the idea better because I will not be in the client’s home all the time. He wants me to be safe.

Starting Work
October 8th, 2007
I started orientation today and I think it’s a great company to work for. I am excited to start working with the first time parents and their children. I pray that I do a good job considering the stress that we are both constantly dealing with.

Our BED
October 5, 2007
Today was great waking up in our bed. I love our house and I love being able to have peace and quiet. I hope however that our things come soon. Sitting on camp chairs in the living room is definitely getting old already.

Moving again this makes 5
October 4, 2007
Today we are moving out of Boyd and Rebecca’s house. We are both so excited. We want our own space even though the only thing we have is our bed and dressers and washer and dryer. I have minimal work clothes so in a few days I am going to head to the outlets and see if I can get some clothes to hold me over. We hired some movers to get our things from storage here.

I have a job
October 3, 2007
Today I got offered the job at the Helen Ross McNabb center. I am so happy and I start orientation on the 8th. I was hoping to get our things from the Army and get settled before I started work but I think this job is perfect for me.
